![]() MGZD April.Rappers Rule The World. So, as the summer quickly approaches, we will most likely disappear into a blur of mojitos and bass bins, but before we get too deep into jumping guns (and pool fences) let us just give a quick update: Megasoid are working on a record. We already got some good songs recorded for it, and have sent out beats to a bunch of rapper friends for tracking. The lineup is already heat, but if we have our way, it's gonna be fucking insane by the time it is done. The LP will also have a couple aggressive instrumental joints, some singing and a couple legit digital dancehall type heaters with our good friend / favorite person to work with, Zulu. Zulu is murderous. We were so psyched that he got to jump up with us for SXSW (alongside Grand Analog, Skratch Bastid, Ghislain Poirier, Giovanni Marks and Cadence Weapon, no less!). We like rap more than we like club music, especially stuff that works on a couple levels (ie. the club AND the ipod, jeep, bedroom, gunshop, etc.) and shows actual prowess on the production tip... If we can get that type of scenario cracking for this stuff, we will be real happy. We aren't even trying to think about a release date or anything like that, and most likely there will be another volume of Speed Knot remixes before that shit surfaces. But yeah... we are getting the shit together. Some people that we are feeling (off the top) right now: Cory Guns (on the Little Wayne joint, my god!), Santo, Too Short, Trackademics, Wale, Red Cafe, Too much South / Chicago / Detroit shit, Fixxers, Black Milk, Gorilla Zoe, BNC Prince, Dude N Nem, Dizzy, Young L / Pack, Cool Kids and of course everyone that we are fucking with for our project. Anyways, 'nuff bullshitting about all that... SHOWS. So the rumormill is already starting about some street-party type shit. All we can say is, when it goes down, its going down HUGE. We got some big things planned, fun things. Huge things. HEATERS. Also, some fun shits coming up with SERIAL guests for the Turbo Crunk nights, which will probably spill over to some other crazy shit in the wee hours. Come to montreal and hang out with us. We take summer serious. Anyways, keep your eyes open to that front page. We will keep it updated. We also got that myspace shit, spacebot just approves m*therfuckers so you can do that also.... myspace.com/megasoidkult We should also say thanks to everyone that has came and rocked at our nights in the last little while: Nosaj Thing, Lorn, Pursuit Grooves, Machinedrum and everyone else that has come to support! This month is gonna be nuts! LAZER SWORD will be in the building, ME's Bday and Sunday BBQ! and of course: FREE HITMAYNE! Megasoid Says Ooops! So a couple weeks back our only friend in any position of media power (okay there are other dudes[+ettes] that ride for us hard, only in broken English) wrote an article on "Lazer Bass" for The New Yorker Magazine's blog. Within minutes our inbox was full with messages from people mentioned in the article, homies getting excited for us, our parents and some random ass record labels trying to pump us for some remixes (for bands that have no idea who we are or what we are about). It was a big nod from a legit critic who we actually respect; something uncommon for dudes that have been / stay making stuff, as most music critics aren't musicians, don't know shit about music or vice versa. Montreal is the bastard shithead / beaten stepchild of the international music thing. We are not American. We eat things that people name after body movements and pre-adult years. We get 6 months of fucked up weather to keep us inside making shit and then six months to do it HUGE before we get back to work. But more than that, our team likes like to get fucked up. We procrastinate. We talk shit. We sleep rarely. We wake up late. We are also academics and designers that have lives and responsibilities outside of this stuff, but people don't care much about that shit. Screaming Rap and R&B songs at each other is more interesting than dancing to Techno or Electro or whatever spur-of-the-moment shit that happens to be 'hotly-mashed' by a circle of 100 profile DJs that need to protect each others longevity. Johnny Cash is the only Kareoke-worthy music in the boxes here. Megasoid only plays the music we like and we aren't concerned with fitting comfortably into any one scene. We'd rather embrace parts of all of them, taxing only what we think is top-shelf. For dudes that have grown up in North America with Punkrock and Hiphop and Detroit Techno and Graffiti and Bmxes and Skateboarding... it is ALL he same shit to us. from Gucci caps to Skull Skates. From MCM to UT stripes. It is about taking the things that are dope from anywhere, saying "fuck you" and making your own shit out of it. Bottom line. That is what we think and is what we do. We won't be anything other than 'those dudes'. All that being said, we have too much love for everyone right now despite the on-blast tone of everything said above. We sincerely want a return to 'real' music in the club. PA music. Soundsystem Music. Bass Music. Anything other than the same 30 songs sampling the same 25. We want new shit. We want people to have a conversation with it. We want fly shit. Hype shit. Dope shit. Tough Shit. We will book and support ANYTHING that rides with that idea if it is good. Get at us if you are on that level. Really. Music is incredibly exciting for us right now. We want to share it with people. General shout outs and props list: LA peoples: Daddy Kev, Glitchmob, FlyLo, Gaslamp, LowEnd, Daedelus, Nosaj, BEAR, D-Styles, etc. For the record, the city we love, Montreal, just calls it 'Street Bass.' xo.
